Structure of Toastmasters International

Riverside Toastmasters Club is # 5135, in Area 33, in Division D, in Toastmasters District 61.

Clubs: Each Toastmasters Club is independent. It sets its own meeting agendas, based on the Communication and Leadership Program of Toastmasters International. The Club is guided by Club officers chosen by members to administer the program on their behalf. In 2009–10, the Riverside Club officers are (in order of precedence):

Areas: To facilitate interclub activities, four to seven Clubs are grouped into Areas, each with an Area Governor. The Area Governor serves as a liaison between the Club and the rest of the Toastmasters International organization. Area Governor responsibilities include visiting Clubs, coordinating inter-Club activities, helping Clubs build their membership, promoting educational completions of members, ensuring that Club officers are trained in the performance of their duties, conducting Area speech contests, helping Clubs with programming and administrative needs, and installing Club officers. In 2009–10, Riverside Club is in Area 43, along with:

The 2009–10, the Area 33 Governor is Beverley McKivor.

Divisions: Three or more Areas are grouped into Divisions, each with a Division Governor. The Division Governor is responsible for providing Club officer training at Toastmasters Leadership Institutes held twice annually in winter and summer, organizing Division speech contests and forming new Clubs. In 2009–10, Riverside Club is in Division D, along with Clubs in Areas 30, 31, 32, 34 and 35. Our 2009–10 Division D Governor is Daria Ghaby, CTM, CL.

Districts: Districts are a fundamental unit of the Toastmasters International structure. District officers serve as the driving force for our organization’s continued growth. Riverside Club is in District 61. The 2009–10 District Governor is Leona Hamel, DTM. Her theme for the year is “Take Your Passion. Make It Happen!”

International: The Board of Toastmasters International is made up of 18 International Directors, who serve two-year terms, and five Officers, who serve one-year terms. In 2009–10, the President of Toastmasters International is Gary Schmidt, DTM. His theme for the year is “Toastmasters: Confidence. Leadership. Service.”
